What Is Botox Cosmetic?
Botox Cosmetic is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles and used to improve the look of wrinkles on the face for a short period of time.
Botox Cosmetic is administered by a healthcare professional as a simple, nonsurgical, non-invasive cosmetic treatment that is injected directly into the muscles that cause wrinkles to form. It works by blocking nerve impulses to the injected muscles, reducing muscle activity that causes moderate to severe lines to form in the skin.
When will I see results and how long do the effects of Botox Cosmetic, Juvéderm and Restylane last?
Within days, you may see a marked improvement in the moderate-to-severe frown lines and wrinkles with Botox Cosmetic. Lines continue to improve for up to 30 days, and results can last for up to 4 months. Individual results may vary.
With Juvéderm and Restylane fillers you should see an immediate improvement in the treatment areas. Most patients require only one treatment to achieve optimal wrinkle smoothing or volume enhancement, and results last up to 1 year. However, results may vary and correction is temporary. Supplemental "touch-up" treatments may be required to achieve and maintain optimal results.
Is treatment painful?
Discomfort is usually minimal and brief. Prior to injection, Dr. Pankowski may choose to numb the area with a cold pack or anesthetic cream. The entire procedure takes approximately 10 minutes. Most patients are in and out of the office without downtime following treatment.
Will I still be able to make facial expressions?
Although the results are visible, treatment with Botox Cosmetic, Juvéderm and/or Restylane will not radically change your facial appearance or make you look as if you have “had work done”. The muscle activity that causes frown lines and wrinkles is temporarily reduced with Botox, so you can still frown, smile or look surprised without creases forming between your brows or around your eyes, nose and lips. The filler products simply fill in the wrinkles and creases providing a smoother appearance to your skin.
What are Juvéderm and Restylane fillers made of?
Juvéderm and Restylane are dermal fillers made from hyaluronic acid — a naturally occurring substance in your skin. They combine with water in your skin to instantly restore lost volume, smooth out lines and wrinkles, and enhance lips. Results are not only instant but natural looking.
